TERRY TUCKER (HAS, June 11) blames doctors and solicitors for the pittance Durham Miners received from the compensation scheme set upon their behalf. Miners should have received all of their entitlement.
Durham NUM referred thousands of miners to a local firm of solicitors with a deal that that firm would take 7.5% of a sick miners compensation pay out and pay it to the Durham NUM. Had not miners paid their union dues?
What happened to the £4.8 million the Durham NUM are alleged to have made?
The firm of solicitors allegedly made £155 million. In total solicitors allegedly made £1.2 billion, and many had links to Unions.
Labour MP Kevan Jones called out the NUM accusing it of lining its pockets from the miners.
Elsewhere a UNITE official was fined £5,000 for unfairly deducting fees from miners pay outs.
It seems many people had a finger in the pie and the miners lost out.
