I CANNOT condone the vandals attacking the breast screening trailer whilst parked in Crook leading to cancelled appointments (Echo, May 18).

The article, however, highlights access issues.

Apparently “they provide access for women to have breast screening for those less able to attend North Tees Hospital”.

The photo shows six steep steps, making it inaccessible to less able older and disabled women who are expected to get themselves to Stockton to take up the offer of screening even though they have even more difficulty with transport and may live a long distance away.

The hospital trust is commissioned to run the service for Public Health England/NHS England for a large part of our area, not just Stockton.

Management have stated lack of funds as to why their trailer is not accessible. They are breaking the current Equality Act making it unreasonably difficult for many with severe mobility issues who do not live near to Stockton to have breast screening.
