TINDALE retail park, at St Helen Auckland, must have seemed like a good idea on the drawing board but unless something is done about the car park and the road system generally I fear that, in the words of Private Fraser, it’s “doomed”.
The car park itself is hazardous, the corners are too tight and that hump at the entrance is absolutely ridiculous, but the major problem is that the surrounding road system simply cannot cope with the volume of traffic.
At busy periods the small roundabout at the entrance/exit frequently becomes gridlocked and the situation is exacerbated by traffic lights at the major junction at Tindale club.
I’ve already noticed a dropping off of footfall at the weekend; people are not going to shop if they face major problems getting out of the car park.
The larger stores, especially in the face of internet shopping, will soon close if takings suffer, and I fear that’s what will happen at Tindale unless something is done about the traffic flow.
