I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with Harry Mead’s column (April 25) outlining the case for a large reduction in the number of MPs from 650 to 437, this is the actual number that can be seated.

As stated they are under employed, whilst enjoying pay, benefits and perks plus additional earnings the envy of most working people.

However until there is an overwhelming clammer from the country for this to happen nothing will take place, to quote an old saying: "Would Turkeys (MPs) vote for Christmas". The same attitude is taken with the House of Lords in Westminster because if the Lords is reformed then there would be no argument stopping it happening in the Lower House. QED.
