TWO exciting new developments have been announced which it is claimed will create hundreds of jobs.

It is a surprise that there is considered to be a demand for an office block in Darlington town centre with developments such as the tower block on Gladstone Street standing empty for years.

The second scheme is more interesting but could create problems. It mainly consists of three huge buildings designated for industrial/distribution use. Distribution equates to large lorries travelling to and fro which could be a major problem.

We need either to complete the cross town route or build access to the north at the A1(M)/A68 junction or build the proposed new road from the Eastern Corridor to the A1(M) at Coatham Mundeville. Otherwise northbound heavy lorries will travel along Salters Lane and Whinfield Road.

Many of the people filling these new jobs will travel from out of town adding to the congestion at peak periods on our already congested roads. We also have the proposed large estate between Staindrop and Coniscliffe Roads which will add to the congestion.

The council still do not appear to be considering the solution of Park and Ride.
