I AGREE entirely with the comments made by Mark Anderson (HAS, Mar 3) about the interventions of Tony Blair and John Major in the Brexit debate.

As an additional comment I would like to point out that Tony Blair promised the British people a referendum on more than one occasion and then failed to do it.

It probably slipped his mind once his eyes were set on becoming a major player in the EU.

John Major, who worked so tirelessly to incorporate the UK into the Maastricht treaty, without asking the British people or giving them a chance to decide whether they wanted to give away most of their hard won laws, rights and decision making, to a bunch of inflexible autocrats in Belgium, now wants a second referendum on Brexit. This seems a little duplicitous.

Presumably he doesn’t understand the meaning of the word ‘majority’ – strange when it incorporates his name.

When push comes to shove, neither Tony Blair nor John Major have really shown themselves in any blaze of glory and their bleating about the disaster of real democracy at work simply strengthens our belief and resolve in the British people.
