POLITICALLY correct officials and holier-than-thou MPs are taking the exhilaration and excitement out of sport.

A footballer can no longer have a wholehearted celebration after scoring a goal because some jobsworth official can rule it out, after viewing an action replay.

Spontaneity is lost, and even referees are confused by eye-in-the-sky verdicts. As for supporters, they never know when to laugh or when to cry.

At the recent World Athletic Championships, in Birmingham, there were more than 20 disqualifications for petty offences, like stepping on the line.

No athlete, or the crowd, dared celebrate a gold because there was a good chance that disqualification would follow.

Team GB’s women’s relay team was given a bronze, after the unjust disqualification of Jamaica, and then thrown out of the medals altogether, an hour later, for barging, an offence none of the expert commentators could identify.

Now we have national hero Sir Bradley Wiggins smeared by a bunch of MPs who aren’t fit to lace his cycling shoes.

They admit he has done nothing outside the rules, but they still don’t hesitate to drag him down.

Give our lads and lasses a break!
