I READ with interest the huge advert put in the Echo by Durham County Council about the Aykley Heads development, the jobs being attracted to Durham City and the impact on the local economy.
Meanwhile, here in the remote far reaches of Barnard Castle we can only watch our town deteriorate.
Our historic castle walls are falling down, due to a dispute over who pays for repairs. Not DCC, they refuse.
The rest of our town landmarks are slowly being destroyed by heavy lorries, not to mention the danger to pedestrians. What does DCC do about it? Paint a few white lines!
Let’s face it. DCC really stands for Durham City Council. It seems to be the only part of Durham that they know or care about.
