I CAN’T believe the naivety of Mike Taylor (HAS, Dec 27) and his question “why would any UK government want to reduce health and safety standards?”.
The answer is simple, profit. Too many times have I read in the right-wing press that these standards are stopping progress.
Also, if this government gives in to the USA’s trade deals, we must reduce our standards to their level or risk being sued.
Like unfair dismissal, claims for accidents could soon be only available if you can afford the cost of suing or, if you’re in a union and they pay.
