I WAS not surprised that driving examiners are not happy with the latest changes to the driving test (Echo, Dec 1). I have been on the roads now, on two and four wheels, for more than 50 years, five of those as a part-time instructor.
Recently, I took the Safe Driving at Age test, and my rating a good level of safe driving”.
Yet I would fail the new driving test.
My car is equipped with a satnav which I have never used.
Instead I rely on my own map reading ability and common sense. This has never sent me down a cart track or closed road or urged me to “turn round immediately” when driving on a newly opened stretch of road.
Also, like the examiners, I would try not to pull up on the right side of the road. As they say, it is potentially dangerous and should not be encouraged.
Particularly at night when headlights can blind oncoming drivers.
Another example of bureaucrats and politicians paying no attention to the people doing the job.
