I REFER to Alec Telford’s letter (HAS, Dec 2) regarding the cost of painkillers such as aspirin, paracetamol etc.
Until a few years ago, you used to be able to buy small bottles full of such painkillers relatively cheaply. However, as is often the case in life, as a very small minority took the opportunity to overdose themselves because of the painkillers’ widespread availability, the majority suffer.
The manufacturers simply took the opportunity to withdraw such bulk bottles and replace them with individually sealed tablets in boxes of 16 or 32 maximum.
Prices unsurprisingly went upwards!
