WITH reference to Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell’s visit to Middlesbrough (Echo, Oct 14), I must express my disappointment that the Tees Valley Mayor couldn’t support our transport ambitions for the Tees Valley.
Instead, he ridiculously resorted to ascribing remarks to Mr McDonnell that he did not make.
In government, Labour will put the investment into the transport infrastructure of the Tees Valley with the major upgrade of Middlesbrough railway station key to our industrial strategy.
Far from being “disastrous” as Mayor Ben Houchen alleges, our plans would bring enormous benefits right into the heart of our city region. The Tees Valley Mayor should be raising his voice in support of the proposals, not denigrating them.
Andy McDonald MP (Labour), Middlesbrough
