IN reply to George Dunning about what miners think of their economic environment (HAS, Oct 14).
I am a coal miner’s granddaughter and very proud of it too. He worked at Blackhall Colliery after his stint in the Army until he retired.
Blackhall Colliery hasn’t fared too badly as it’s on the main coast road. The shops are all open.
But walk up Easington Front Street and it’s a ghost town. Most of the shops are boarded up, but the folks still have their pride as they rightly should.
