HMRC chief executive, Lin Homer, may well claim HMRC’s new regional centre in Newcastle will “make a big contribution to the economy of the North-East, providing high-quality, skilled jobs” (Echo, Oct 6).
However, they come at a real economic cost for Tees Valley and those highly-skilled workers currently employed in Middlesbrough and Thornaby.
This government’s inventive rhetoric is never matched with concrete delivery for Tees Valley. Jam tomorrow: Job losses today.
No doubt we will soon hear about a task force to do “everything they can” for those 900 who will lose their jobs at HMRC.
Additionally, this weak and unstable Tory government blindly pursues an economic policy that damages this region today, tomorrow and for the foreseeable future.
Why on earth do some people still believe any promise about Britain’s future from Theresa May’s Brexit-Tory government?
