YOUR columnist Chris Moncrief (Echo, Sept 26) repeats the incorrect claim often used by Brexiteers to attack Remainers that “52 per cent of the British electorate voted to leave the EU”.

This is incorrect as only 67 per cent of the electorate voted and 52 per cent of these voted to leave.

So in fact the correct figure is only approximately 34 per cent.

Probably many of the abstainers did not vote because they were unsure what the consequences of leaving would be. As the negotiations proceed the situation is becoming no clearer. But we still have Boris Johnson claiming there will be £350m per week for the NHS.
