I AM one of the Remainers who is being constantly criticised by the Brexiteers because ‘we are not accepting the decision of the majority of the electorate’ by calling for another Referendum when we see the final terms.

But the decision was not made by a majority of the electorate but by a majority of those who voted i.e. 37 per cent of the electorate.

Presumably many did not vote because they could not sort out the misleading claims of both sides.

Recently published figures justify our call by showing the Leave campaign was misleading in claiming that there would be an extra £350m more per week for the NHS if we left the EU.

A figure printed in huge letters on the side of Boris Johnson’s bus whilst he toured the country.

Technically the new figures show that in 2016/17 we gave £16.9bn to the EU which equates to £325m per week.

But this figure excludes the rebate of £4.8bn negotiated by Margaret Thatcher reducing the net figure to £234m per week.

Also ignored is the £4.1bn the EU contributed to the public sector so the figure is further reduced to £156m per week.

There is no precise figure available for the amount the EU gave to the private sector but it has been estimated to be up to £1.5bn further reducing the figure to £127m per week or just over a third of what we were promised.

Does the Leave campaign contravene the Trades Description Act?
