I THOUGHT your editorial, “Gatlin is not the problem”, was spot on (Echo, Aug 7).

Justin Gatlin was found to have broken the doping rules on two occasions, but your column provides an excellent explanation to the background to the offence.

It was 2006 when he was last found guilty and he was cleared to run again in 2010 – seven years ago. I thought the behaviour of the crowd in booing him was appalling and Steve Cram should be sacked for his comments on BBC TV.

The views of his fellow analyst Michael Johnson were much more rational. Regretfully, the audience members who booed did not show themselves in a good light – was it because they did not get the ending they wanted?

That sounds very much like a referendum held recently in the United Kingdom.

Please look again at the reasons Gatlin was banned.

I hope that now he does not let me down.
