MIKE Taylor and Phil Walker (HAS, July 20) seem to think that Brexit will restore our sovereignty and independence.
I’ve got news for them: we lost both those things long before we joined the Common Market, let alone the EU.
We lost them when in 1940 and again in 1947 we had to beg America for massive loans to avoid total economic collapse, we got the loans, more or less, but they came with so many strings attached that we’ve been American puppets ever since.
That servitude will continue, Brexit or no Brexit.
As for us regaining our pre-1914 status as a global player – dream on.
