HAVING voted to leave the EU, it seems that every day the public are told of numerous problems associated with our leaving, and so it all becomes even more confusing.

As I understand it, there was a referendum in 1973 to join the Common Market which was a trading agreement only, between European member states, which the British public agreed to.

I am unaware of a later referendum being put to the British public to join the European political union, the laws of which have now superseded our own laws and have taken away our ability to determine access to our sovereign boundaries.

As I understand it, the recent referendum to leave the EU was solely to restore political control over our own laws and borders. It had nothing to do with staying or leaving the Common Market, and should not be confused with current negotiations to leave the European Union, its parliament and its laws.

Having said that, I am persuaded that the public were duped into becoming a part of the European Parliament.

Will someone enlighten me as to whether I am right in thinking we were never aware of being taken into the European Union.
