THE impact of social media upon the general election and the increase in Labour support was significant.

Though complaints of excessive media bias across Fleet Street were made by newspaper readers during the election it was predominantly older people reading them. The under-30s were glued to their iPads as Labour activists flooded social media.

Personally I found much of the content both misleading and offensive but it did not really matter what I thought. It was not aimed at me. My mind was already made up. It was aimed at younger people and the effect was obvious - 70 per cent of the youth vote turned out and they were not voting Conservative.
