DRIVING is a big responsibility. Some people seem to forget that. Lizzy Phillipson is not one of those people.

Almost four years ago, Lizzy’s boyfriend Grant Benson, and Nick Davidson, the passenger in his Audi A4, were killed when their car hit a tree. Families and friends were left devastated by the loss. Lizzy and Grant’s daughter, Ava, will grow up having never met her dad.

An inquest later heard that the driver was over the legal alcohol limit and that the car could have been travelling at up to 80mph along the unlit 60mph limit road.

Lizzy has now made it her mission to remind people that driving irresponsibly is simply not worth the risk.

Despite police clampdowns, adverts featuring horrific crashes and changes to driving tests, too many people aren’t getting that message. Lizzy is taking a more direct approach by posting messages on social media to voice her concerns and shaming danger drivers publicly.

She was horrified recently to see footage posted by a friend on Snapchat which showed him travelling at more than 90mph, and driving at high speed in pouring rain.

Breaking the speed limit, drink-driving and failing to take care in bad weather are nothing new. Drivers using their mobile phones while they are behind the wheel is a more recent phenomena which has added to the risks some idiotic drivers bring to our roads.

The Echo took the decision to not name the person who posted the videos which sparked Lizzy’s concerns - the important thing here was to urge him and other dangerous drivers to stop taking stupid risks before it is too late.
