Olympic Run

Olympic Run

Readers of the Northern Echo are being offered the chance to be among the first runners ever to cross the finish line at the new Olympic Stadium.

The ballot for The National Lottery Olympic Park Run on March 31 closed in October. However, The Northern Echo has managed to secure 10 places to give away to readers for what will be the very first public event at the new stadium.

The historic five-mile run, which celebrates the contribution of The National Lottery and its players to London 2012 is open to anyone aged 16 or over, of any running ability (although certain exclusions apply).

The five-mile course will cross the Olympic Park and will pass alongside other iconic Olympic and Paralympic Games venues which The National Lottery has helped fund.

The run will end on the home straight in the spectacular Olympic Stadium.

Hoping to cross the finish line first will also be a host of former and current Olympic and Paralympic athletes and celebrity runners.

Everyone taking part will receive a computer chip timing for a completely accurate running time, a souvenir finisher's medal, on-course refreshments, branded t-shirt to run in and a finisher's pack. Each runner will also get two spectator tickets for family or friends.

The National Lottery is contributing up to £2.2 billion towards the funding of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games including the venues and infrastructure.

Through mainstream funding, The National Lottery enables Britain's elite competitors to train as full-time professionals and provides them with support.

From 2006 to 2013, The National Lottery is providing in excess of £310 million to support over 1,200 potential Team GB and Paralympics GB athletes as they prepare for London 2012 and beyond.
