Candidate for: Hexham

Profile:

Mr Opperman is 44 and was born and raised in Wiltshire. A barrister, he lives just outside Hexham.

In the past he has prosecuted several murder trials; he recently acted in the case surrounding the Beatles stolen last recording session - the 1969 "Get Back" session tapes.

More recently he has represented many schools, local authorities and colleges all over the country and is a specialist in all aspects of education law.

Mr Opperman has a long history of work in the community - most especially with Citizens Advice Bureau and on behalf of Victim Support.

Because of this hewon the 2007 Bar Pro Bono Award for his work with the Free Representation Unit and the Challenge to the closure of Marlborough Hospital. The award was given by the former Labour Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith QC, who praised him for "helping many ordinary people and making their lives better".

Mr Opperman is an amateur jockey, with several wins in point to points.

He has an honours degree in law from the University of Buckingham and a first class diploma from the University of Lille, France.
