GOLFERS are being invited to take part in a special charity day to raise money for the flying lifesavers of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The Midsummer Madness Golf Opens, on June 24, will see open access to Ripon City Golf Club’s newly-refurbished course on Palace Road, with 54, 36, 18 or nine-hole Stableford competitions.

"It's a chance to have fun and raise money at the same time," said Anthony Blackburn, one of the organisers.

"We're opening up the course to everyone to play as much or as little as they like - juniors, seniors, ladies, other clubs and organisations, all are welcome.”

Anthony and five of his intrepid fellow golfers will also attempt to play 100 holes during the day - starting at 3.30am and expecting to finish at around 10.30pm.

"It's going to be quite a challenge but we're determined to succeed," said Anthony.

"We're asking people to sponsor us or make donations - they can still be part of the day even if they don't play themselves."

The club is also hosting the local round of the National Putting Challenge on the same day, with the winner going forward to the regional finals and then potentially to the national finals in Surrey.

All money raised from the day will be shared between Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a project to build a new balcony at the club itself.
