THREE talented students are preparing to take the world by storm after collecting their college’s greatest honour.

Fort 102 years the solid silver Cuthbert Cross has been presented to those whose “honourable and chivalrous conduct” contributes the mkost to Northallerton College life.

And this year students Marc Scott, Emma Curtis and Alex Wickens were those who were voted by their peers and staff to have deserved the award for their work in college and the community.

The list of achievements included sports and photographic competitions, mentoring younger students, taking part in productions and organising a host of events for charity.

Marc Scott is one of the most accomplished long distance runners in the country with successes in athletics, cross country and fell running.

He has secured a rare chance to study sport and exercise science on a full scholarship at a choice of universities in America, renowned globally for the quality of their facilities and coaching.

Fellow award winner Emma Curtis also plans to gain life experience in America in the summer as part of a gap year before studying medicine in 2013.

The 17-year-old, of Thrintoft, hopes to become a hospital doctor and is aiming to spend the year working as a health care assistant.

"I was really shocked to be chosen but feel extremely proud," said Emma, who organised and completed a 144mile coast to coast bike ride which raised more than £3,300 for charity.

Joint Cuthbert Cross winner Alex Wickens also plans to travel the world after achieving his dream job of working in the media.

The 18-year-old, of Thimbleby, secured third place in the national Young Fashion Photographer of the Year competition and has gained a place at Oxford University to read biology.
