A PUPPY has been seized from a woman who flouted a life-time ban on keeping animals.

The 14-week old puppy was rescued from a Whitby home in a joint operation between the RSPCA and police.

The householder, a 27-year-old woman, was convicted at Cleveland Magistrates Court in 2012 of animal cruelty charges including failing to protect animals from pain, injury or harm and failing to meet their needs.

An RSPCA officer described the cruelty as one of the worse cases of suffering that they had ever seen and one of the suffering dogs had to be put to sleep.

The woman received a banning order preventing her from owning or participating in keeping animals, or from controlling or influencing the way they are kept.

When it emerged she had a new puppy, the authorities acted.

A spokesman for the local Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “North Yorkshire Police will always take robust action against those people who pose a risk to animals and have a complete disregard for the conditions imposed by the courts.” An investigation is now ongoing.
