A MARKET town in County Durham has been named in the top ten best affordable destinations for a New Year's break.
Barnard Castle ranked seventh in the list produced from data collected by HolidayLettings.co.uk
The website found that rates for a two-bedroom rental in Barnard Castle average £82 nightly for a stay over the New Year period which runs from December 29 to January 2.
Laurel Greatrix, a spokesperson for Holiday Lettings, said the data reveals great alternatives to the big cities for a cosy and affordable New Year’s break.
She said: "Rentals are a wonderful option for groups planning New Year’s getaways. Friends and family will love the extra space, and groups can split the cost for an affordable New Year’s staycation.
“Barnard Castle has something for every traveller, from shopping to scenic hiking trails.
