FAMILY-FRIENDLY activities will be on offer in Bishop Auckland next week.

The Auckland Project will host its All Hallows' Walk on October 27 and 28 which will see historical characters brought back to life in the grounds of Auckland Castle.

The 30-strong cast gathered together from Bishop Auckland College, St John’s School and Sixth Form and W.A.S.H Youth Theatre, will be transformed into historical characters each evening.

Now in its fourth year All Hallows’ Walk is organised by local community arts organisation Daisy Arts, in partnership with The Auckland Project.

Jane Crawford, managing director of Daisy Arts said: “All Hallows is an event that remembers those who have gone before, for two nights they come back to life to tell us their stories.

“There will be a chill and a thrill to the evening with something for everyone to enjoy.”

Groups will embark on the trail from the castle every 20 minutes between 5pm and 8pm on each night.

They will meet characters such as the ghost of Lumley Castle, Lily Lumley, legendary Bishop Auckland knight, Richard Pollard who defeated a monstrous boar, and hag of the River Tees, Peg Powler, who is said to grab the ankles of those who wander too close to the water’s edge.

Walkers should wrap up warm, wear walking shoes or wellies and bring a bright torch.

Tickets for the walk cost £6 for adults and £4 for under 16s. To book email bookings@aucklandproject.org or call 01388-743797.

Youngsters can also get creative with Put Yourself in the Picture. The drop-in workshops will be held at the new Mining Art Gallery in Bishop Auckland Market Place, from noon until 3pm from October 23 to 27.

Tickets are £4 for adults, £3 for concessions or free for under 16s, National Art Pass holders, HHA members or those who have already been admitted to the gallery.
