FOUR people are being questioned by detectives after the discovery of a man’s body in a house.

Police were called to a house in Sunderland late on Saturday night where a man was discovered with “significant injuries”.

The man who is in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is currently being treated as unexplained and four people are being questioned about the circumstances.

Officers were called to Kemble Square in the Downhill area of the city shortly before 11pm and have been at the scene since.

Police forensics teams have sealed off the area while searches take place and house-to-house enquiries have taken place today at neighbouring properties.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "At 10.50pm last night police were called to Kemble Square in Downhill, Sunderland.

"A man in his 40s was found with significant injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the man's death which at the moment is being treated as unexplained.

"Four people are in police custody helping with inquiries."

The identity of the dead man has not yet been released.
