A COMPETITION to find images which represent the distinctive character of the North has closed.

Selfie by Charles Bell among the final entries for a compelling photography contest which has seen The Northern Echo team up with The Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle.

Other images include One with Nature by Keith Johnson; Appropriately Dressed by Craig Atkinson; Strings Attached by Kyaana Clark Stewart and Darlington High Street by Phyllis Christopher.

The event celebrates the attraction’s exhibition Only in England and features photograph by Tony Ray-Jones and Martin Parr who excelled at capturing English traditions and eccentricities unique to their time.

The deadline for entries was yesterday and judging is expected to take place shortly.

There are three characters: 11 years and under, 12 to 17 years and 18 years and over. The winner of the latter will receive £1,000 and the two runners up in this category, as well as the other category winners will receive an Impossible camera.
