TEACHERS are going back to school for lessons in keeping fit after winning a competition to treat tutors to exercise classes.

Members of staff at Red Hall Primary School, in Darlington, will take part in special fitness classes over a six-week period in a bid to relieve the stress of the classroom.

One quarter of teachers and support staff at the school off Headingley Crescent entered the contest organised by supply teacher providers, Darlington-based 123Teachers, and the Corporate Personal Fitness (CPF) group.

CPF fitness trainer, John Harrison, who works out of the group’s Business Central base, will lead the exercise sessions.

Red Hall Primary School head teacher, Julie Davidson, said: “Teaching can be a pretty stressful environment at times – staff work long hours, often well into the evening marking homework and preparing lessons – and it’s hard to set aside time to look after yourself.

“It’s a fantastic prize and we can’t wait to get started.”

Ms Davidson added that several staff members have already set up their own running club.

Patrick Masheder, who started CPF along with Mr Harrison, said: “We are delighted to be working with Red Hall School.”
