AN £85,000 skate park will be officially opened in Crook this week.

Durham County Council has organised a Go Skate Day competition to celebrate the opening at Glenholme Park on Wednesday, February 22, from 1pm to 3pm.

The Three Towns Area Action Partnership worked closely with young skaters from Crook Riders to finalise the design and the chosen scheme, featuring 27 elements, was backed unanimously.

Work began on site last November, with funding coming from section 106 money and the neighbourhood budgets of Crook councillors Eddie Tomlinson, Andrea Patterson and Maureen Stanton.

Any young people wishing to pre-enter the competition should contact Marie Urwin, providing their name, age and contact details to ensure they receive a free Crook Riders t-shirt.

Entrants must be aged eight and over and should bring their own safety helmet.

A Big Bird Bash, organised by Groundwork, will also take place at the park at the same time. Children can learn about local birds and make their own feeder.
