A SUSPECT has been arrested after a man told police he was raped in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The attack allegedly happened in Newcastle city centre and police were called at around 1.30am.
The incident was in an area near to the Boulevard Public House.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “An investigation is underway and a section of the area has been cordoned off while enquiries are carried out.
“There are extra officers in the area carrying out patrols and speaking to people this morning.”
Anyone who was in the area and who saw or heard anything is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 45 06/12/16.
