A GENEROUS donation will help a unique charity in its work to benefit the community and its volunteers.

Darlington’s Café JJ, which is staffed by a team of people with learning disabilities, was given a £3,150 boost recently.

As part of a safety initiative, the Wood Group, Wood Group Industrial Services and Amec Foster Wheeler donated £10 a day for every day there was no harm to people or the environment as part of a project at the CATS Gas Terminal in Teesside.

Staff nominated Cafe JJ to benefit from the resulting funds.

David Pinder, engineering manager for Wood Group, said: “We were keen to give something to a local charity and Café JJ give a service to the community and do a fantastic job in teaching people with learning disabilities about catering.”

Val Hutchinson from Café JJ said: “This is the biggest donation we’ve received and will make a big difference.

“We will use the money to pay for our rent and costs and that way, we can keep our prices down and benefit the community.”
