SEVEN parishes across Hambleton are taking a cut of almost £46,000 to develop projects in their communities.

They are benefiting from a system which raises funds through new developments to create the infrastructure that is needed to support them.

The Community Infrastructure Levy is charged on some new buildings to help pay for improved roads, parks and health provision needed to support developments but a proportion is passed on to local parish councils.

Hambleton District Council was among the first authorities in the country to introduce the levy - with £45,900 allocated from it this month. The money go to projects in Tollerton - £1,773; Hackforth - £3,837; Bedale - £1,366; Morton on Swale – £20,948; Aldwark - £5,197; Easingwold - £4,690; and Aiskew - £8,100.

“CIL allows us to levy a charge on new developments and use it to fund the strategic infrastructure required to support development in Hambleton,” said local cabinet member Cllr Brian Phillips.

“It enables money to be passed to local parish councils for smaller projects.”
