A TOURIST attraction that enables people to step back in time will encourage visitors to step out to fight dementia.

More than 100 people are expected to take part in a Memory Walk at Beamish Museum on Friday evening.

Chris Colley, from the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “Our Chester-le-Street volunteering group has built up close ties with the museum over a number of years and this latest development has come out of that”.

North Durham MP Kevan Jones and High Sheriff of Durham, Gerard Salvin, will join walkers at the museum at 5.30pm on Friday to complete a 1.6-mile circuit around the grounds.

Museum director Richard Evans said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming the walkers and supporting their efforts to raise funds towards a world without dementia”.
