THE public are being invited to a series of consultation events in an attempt to help Durham County Council decide how to make further budget cuts.

The council is asking the public to help it decide how to save a further £29million next year and alongside an online option and Area Action Partnership events, there are roadshows in supermarkets, leisure centres, theatres and even a market.

The consultation started on September 5.

Durham County Council’s Leader, Councillor Simon Henig, said: “It’s really important that we listen to what the public have to say and by taking our consultation on the road we are giving even more people the chance to do just that.”

Events in Barnard Castle today (September 28) will be held at Barnard Castle Market from 9am until noon and at The Witham from 6pm.

A further event will be held at the Derwent Shopping Centre, in Consett, on Friday, September 30, from 1pm until 4pm.
