AN inquest into the death of a man who died at Darlington Railway Station was opened today (November25).
Ian Smith, 48, of Darlington, died on the East Coast Mainline on September 23.
At Crook Coroner’s Court, Deputy Coroner, Crispin Oliver, heard how Mr Smith was identified by the British Transport Police using his fingerprints and an investigation into his death was underway.
A post-mortem examination also revealed he died from multiple traumatic injuries and injuries from a rail accident.
Coroner’s officer, Jacqueline Sirrell, said the court was still waiting for papers from the British Transport Police.
The case will be reviewed on December 16.
