POLICE are advising concert-goers to take care of their mobiles when they go to see the Prodigy in concert.

The band are playing at Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on Thursday, November 26.

Recent gigs in Aberdeen and Glasgow have seen in excess of 60 mobile phones reported as lost or stolen over the two nights and police are keen to prevent this happening here.

Northumbria Police say there will be high visibility uniform patrols for the event in the area, as well as plain clothes officers, to deter offenders and reassure concert-goers.

Police advice includes never leaving phones or other property, such as purses and wallets, unattended on tables, chairs or in coats or handbags left on the back of chairs.

People should keep their phones in a secure place and also register them on the free property logging site immobilise.com

Neighbourhood Inspector Barrie Joisce said: "Prodigy are playing to a large crowd and we want to remind concert-goers to take extra care and keep a close eye on their mobiles and other valuables.

"All too often opportunist criminals or organised groups target large crowds, and there can be easy pickings for them when people are out to enjoy themselves and focusing their attention on their friends and the music on stage, rather than on keeping their possessions safe.

"Unfortunately it only takes a few seconds for thieves to help themselves to mobiles left peeking out of jackets or bags while their owner's attention is focused elsewhere.

"Offenders will also use the close proximity of the crowd who naturally come into contact with eachother whilst dancingto dip pockets and remove property. Anyone who notices a phone missing should report it as quickly as possible to Arena staff or police and not wait until the end of the event to maximise recvoery of property opportunities.

"By taking crime prevention steps revellers can reduce their risk of falling victim to a thief or losing property. This advice goes for anyone who is in crowded places, those attending events or concerts or people just going shopping in busy retail areas."
