POLICE have released CCTV images of a man they want to trace after a teenager was filmed at a North-East station.

At 11.30am on Sunday, June 14, the 16-year-old girl was in the waiting room at Darlington railway station when she noticed a man taking photos and filming her.

She then boarded the 11.40am service between Darlington and Durham and was followed by the man, who stood directly opposite and continued to take photos and film her.

PC Tony McGhin, of British Transport Police (BTP), said: “The victim attempted to move carriages but was again followed by the man. At this point she turned around and challenged him about his behaviour. He alighted from the train at Durham and ran off.

“Officers investigating the incident believe the man in the images being issued today has information which can assist with their enquiries.”

He added: “After reviewing CCTV the man was seen getting off a train at Darlington from Sheffield, which stops at Wakefield, Leeds and York, so it may be he is from one of these areas.

“BTP is determined to stamp out such behaviour. The victim was extremely brave in challenging the man and I would like to commend her for her actions and thank her for coming forward and reporting the incident to us.

“We take all reports of unwanted behaviour or attention of this type extremely seriously and are working hard to find the person responsible.

“If you recognise the man pictured please contact us.”
