A LITTLE girl’s dream came true on Friday (April 24) when she was crowned flower queen ahead of a popular medieval fair.
Daisy-Mae Collitor will lead the parade at the start of Sedgefield Medieval Fair in Sedgefield, County Durham, on Saturday, May 16.
The eight-year-old, a pupil at Sedgefield Primary School, will be accompanied by her royal attendants Chloe Laidlaw, 11, Maisie Wakes, six, and Sophie Green, five.
Dr Wendy Gill, of Sedgefield Community Association, which organises the fair, said: “We have always had a flower queen. It’s a traditional part of the fair and the girls get very excited about it.”
The flower queen will be followed by youngsters from Sedgefield and Sedgefield Hardwick primary schools, who will be dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland.
Now in its 45th year, Sedgefield Medieval Fair regularly attracts more than 1,000 people.
This year, the event takes place on the town green between 10am and 4pm and features Morris dancers, combating knights, traditional fairground rides, stalls and much more.
