SANTA Claus’s sleigh will travel through Ferryhill as part of a Christmas fair.

The annual event, which is arranged by Ferryhill Town Council and the Ferryhill 2000 Committee, will take place on Friday (November 28) between 2pm and 6pm.

Children’s rides and a craft fair will be at St Luke’s Parish Centre, on Church Lane, from 2pm.

Pupils from the town’s primary schools will then take part in a candle lit procession, which will leave St Luke’s Church at 4pm and follow Santa’s sleigh as it makes its way to the town hall gardens, where carol singing will take place.

Any adults or children wishing to take part in the procession should meet at the church at 3.45pm where glow sticks will be handed out.

A pupil from Dean Bank Primary School, in Ferryhill, will have the honour of switching on the town’s lights.

Councillor Pauline Crathorne, mayor of Ferryhill, will make a speech at the switch on.

Santa Claus will head to his grotto in the E-Cafe, on Market Street, where youngsters can visit him and receive a present between 4.30pm and 6pm.

Tea and coffee will be served in the E-Cafe and there will also be a tombola.

Details on the Christmas fair can be obtained from John Rogerson, at Ferryhill Town Hall, on 01740 652157.
