A CHURCH group has helped ensure that its village will be awash with daffodils when it celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.

The Cockerton Methodist Ladies group celebrates the landmark anniversary in May and around a dozen members planted over 100 daffodils on Cockerton Green in the hope they will bloom to mark the occasion.

The idea was thought up by co-secretary Christine Johnson and members braved a breezy afternoon to get the job done.

Co-secretary Carol Maughan said: “It went very well, it was very windy but the ground was a lot softer that we had anticipated.

“We thought we might have to use tools to break it up, but it was fine.”

The group, which still boasts some original members, have other plans in the pipeline to celebrate the anniversary.

Its choir will perform at a special concert on May 9 and group members will also enjoy an anniversary lunch at the Bannatyne Hotel.
