TRAIN passengers have been picking the region’s best pubs.
East Coast Trains travellers voted for their favourite pubs at towns and cities along the rail route from London to Scotland.
The Bay Horse was named Darlington’s best and The Head of Steam topped the poll for Durham.
The York Tap, Newcastle’s The Town Wall and The Horseshoe Bar in Harrogate were the region’s other winners.
Nick Wood, social media manager at East Coast Trains, said: “We ran a four-week campaign with our Facebook community to vote for their favourite pubs at 15 of our key destinations, from which we have produced a crowd-sourced pub guide.
“The competition was fierce across all destinations.”
Simon Ritson, general manager at The Head of Steam, off Durham’s North Road, said: “The team and I are really happy to have been nominated and then placed in the top 15.
“It means a lot to us all as it’s a public vote, so knowing that our wonderful customers like the bar enough to take the time to vote is fantastic.”
