THE award-winning Cleveland Tontine hotel has made it through to the final of the White Rose Awards, promoting tourism in Yorkshire.

Charles Tompkins has taken over from Eugene McCoy at the boutique hotel and restaurant which has been shortlisted in the Restaurant with Rooms category.

Based just off the A19 near Stokesley and Yarm, the bistro with seven individually designed bedrooms was awarded five AA gold stars earlier this year.

Winners will be announced at the awards on November 17 at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate.

Winners of each category will also be entered into the national tourism awards next year.

Head Chef James Cooper from The Cleveland Tontine said: "We are absolutely thrilled to bits to have been shortlisted, everyone here is really proud of the Tontine and it’s great for the place to get the recognition it deserves.

“We get people from all over the country through our doors, often they are on their way somewhere else and stop for a bite to eat but we find that most of them come back to spend longer with us.

“The Tour de France this summer has meant we have had visitors from even further afield than usual which is great for us and great for the region.

Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Given the high standard of this year’s entries, just making it to the shortlist is a huge achievement.”
