NEW evening rail services have been announced to serve the North-East as part of a project to provide thousands more journeys in the region by 2020.

TransPennine Express has confirmed late services to run between Middlesbrough and York from December 10.

On Mondays to Fridays, a service will depart from Middlesbrough at 10.50pm for York, calling at Thornaby at 10.55pm, Yarm at 11.05pm, Northallerton at 11.11pm and York at 11.54pm.

A current Liverpool Lime Street service to York service will also be extended to Middlesbrough on weekdays, calling at Northallerton at 9.58pm, Yarm at 10.12pm, Thornaby at 10.21pm and Middlesbrough at 10.32pm.

Rail Minister, Paul Maynard MP, said: “Across the north in just a few years we will see even more new services, new carriages and space for 40,000 more passengers a day.

“This is part of the biggest investment in transport in the region for a generation.”
