DRIVERS who break the law behind the wheel have been caught on camera by Highway’s England’s dashcam truck.
The authority lends its unmarked HGV to police forces across the country and it has been used in the North-East and North Yorkshire this year.
Offences recorded by the dashcam include drivers using mobile phones at the wheel, defective vehicles and motorists not wearing their seatbelts.
In County Durham, 40 vehicles were stopped by the lorry and 43 offences were recorded.
In Yorkshire and the Humber, officers gave verbal advice to seven drivers, issued 146 penalty notices and filed 446 traffic offence reports.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The use of the unmarked HGV by North Yorkshire Police is part of our ongoing tactics to make the roads of North Yorkshire a safer place to travel.”
He added: “Road users who choose to flout the law and drive in a dangerous manner should be aware that we are out patrolling the roads in a number of ways and we will target and prosecute those who chose to ignore the warnings and place themselves and other road users in danger.”
