THERE is disruption on the East Coast Mainline this afternoon as police deal with an incident near Durham.

An ambulance is in attendance, along with police, and the incident is believed to involve a vulnerable person.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "At 3.37pm we were called to the line close to Durham to reports of a person on the tracks.

"Officers were attending to speak to an individual there."

There were reports that there were delays back to Yarm and Thornaby, and also slow running rains between Newcastle and Durham, with services on the East Coast Mainline and Transpennine routes expected to be experiencing disruption.
