ENGINEERING works on the East Coast Mainline are set to delay rail users by at least one hour this weekend with line closures and diversions planned.
Virgin Trains East Coast, CrossCountry and TransPennine Express announced timetable changes for services due to depart in the North-East this weekend with travellers being told to allow for extended journey times.
Services running between Darlington and Newcastle from noon on Saturday, January 21, until noon on Sunday, January 22, will be affected with all lines closing via Durham.
A replacement bus service will operate during the 24-hour closure with trains being diverted via Sunderland and the Durham coast.
Bicycles will not be accepted on rail replacement bus services, however folding bikes are permitted.
Tickets purchased for travel between Darlington and Newcastle will be valid on alternative transport.
