THREE men, a woman and a teenager have been charged with conspiracy to steal bicycles valued at more than £25,000 from railway stations, schools and universities across the North-East.

British Transport Police said their investigation related to the theft of 48 cycles between March and July.

Darren Ellis, 36, and Chantelle Serginson, 28, both of Bridge Street East, Middlesbrough, Brian Horrigan, 42, of Valley Road, Northallerton, Christopher Wilson, 26, of Ainstable Road, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, and a 17-year-old male from Middlesbrough, have been charged with conspiracy to steal bikes and released on bail.

They are due to appear before York and Selby Magistrates Court on December 14.

The charges are part of an ongoing investigation by the force, named Operation Abate, into organised crime.
